Communications Systems Technical Specialist (#01207)
Information Technology Services (ITS) at Old Dominion University is seeking a full-time employee to provide a high level of technical support, affecting the reliability and utilization of the University’s IP-based Physical Security devices and other converged technologies including systems administration level management. This includes the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and monitoring of security cameras, door access, panic alarms, emergency phones and other systems.
Required qualifications include:
- Considerable knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures for computer and communications systems.
- Considerable knowledge of IP based physical security devices and their installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and monitoring.
- Working knowledge of electronics and electronics repair.
- Working knowledge of systems administration
- Considerable knowledge of networking and network protocols.
- Working knowledge of structured cabling systems such as copper, Cat5, Cat6 and coax. 7.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with contractors and co-workers.
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage time and work independently.
- Effective oral and written communications skills.
In most cases these knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Required License: Valid Driver’s license with insurable driving record
Preferred qualifications include:
- Some experience with CBORD CS-Gold systems, Axis Camera and ipConfigure VMS system. Cisco certified associate, professional or expert level career certifications, such as, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert or equivalent knowledge.
