Front-End Web Developer
Goshen College seeks a Front-End Web Developer to provide leadership for Goshen College websites and services including www.goshen.edu (a WordPress multisite) and related sites. Working within the enrollment and marketing division as part of the communications and marketing team, and working closely with the IT department, this position advances the design and function of these sites as well as providing ongoing content maintenance and support. Web-based services are increasingly strategic to service-delivery for all GC constituencies; thus, the position has significant impact on enrollment, retention, development, academics and public perception of the college.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts degree or Bachelor of Science degree required, preferably with an academic focus in computer science, informatics, business information systems, digital media or a related field.
- Two or more years experience in Web development, including experience producing semantic, performant and accessible HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript.
- Experience working in a communications/marketing environment, particularly in a college or university setting, preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
Required:
- Advanced knowledge of semantic HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and current web-design best
practices. - Experience with WordPress site management.
- Significant experience with pre-processing (e.g. PostCSS), asset pipelines (e.g. Gulp/Webpack), version control in Git, and integrating open source Javascript libraries.
- Some experience with command line tools, regular expressions, backend languages (e.g. PHP, Python) and databases (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Solid understanding of HTML and asset loading (e.g. GET/POST, headers, cookies), handling asynchrony in Javascript (AJAX and Promises), and front-end techniques for improving perceived performance (critical rendering path).
