Job Description

As standard bearers for performance and scalability at Workday we pursue performance improvements across our tools and products traversing the full spectrum of technologies at Workday.   To further our mission, we maintain a complex and growing set of tools used by many teams, including our own, to understand performance and scalability.  Our managers and highly skilled full-stack engineers operate across teams and departments to design, mitigate and advance a wide variety of performance goals at Workday .

We are looking for a talented manager to help lead a growing team. The ideal manager enjoys fostering talent while thriving on complex technology performance and scalability issues.


  • Manage a performance engineering team responsible for a wide variety of open source and proprietary cloud technologies.

  • Manage significant physical and virtual computing infrastructure and automation for the purpose of performance engineering work.

  • Hire and foster outstanding engineering talent.

  • Collaborate with technology development teams, Product Management, Operations and other cross functional teams to successfully achieve our team's objectives.

  • Set goals and strategies to deliver a highly performant and scalable cloud technology platform as well as a growing suite of enterprise applications.

  • Influence and establish best engineering practices through solid decision making, processes and tools.

  • Ability to manage high priority customer escalations as they relate to Workday applications.


  • BS/BA degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related technical discipline

  • 3+ years of experience leading software engineering teams (mentoring engineers, setting technical direction, managing performance etc).

  • Large scale, distributed software design & development experience in a Unix/Linux environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing small to medium sized software engineering teams in large-scale, cloud-based, and open source projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to hire the best engineers in a competitive job market and retain them.

  • Well versed in design & algorithms as well as strong analytical and debugging skills.

  • Good understanding of private & public cloud design considerations and limitations in the areas of virtualization, storage, networking, load balancing etc.

  • Proven track record of delivering successfully within aggressive timelines while managing competing priorities.

  • Strong organizational skills along with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
